Event Details

Fanny Hensel grew up in a well-to-do and cultured Berlin family. Like her younger siblings Felix, Rebecca and Paul, she received an excellent education. From an early age, the banker Abraham Mendelssohn Bartholdy and his wife Lea recognised Fanny’s exceptional musical talent, with the result that, like her brother Felix, she was taught by the very best teachers available. During a stay in Paris lasting several months in 1816, both siblings received piano lessons from Marie Bigot de Morogues, a pianist held in high regard by Haydn and Beethoven; these lessons were subsequently continued in Berlin by the renowned Beethoven interpreter Ludwig Berger.
