Fanny Hensel’s piano-accompanied solo songs, published anonymously or ‘under a false name’ during her lifetime and in some cases without her knowledge, form the guide through this two-volume publication, which was compiled in a project lasting several semesters by students at the Berlin University of the Arts. In addition, the volumes contain all previously unpublished solo songs by the following lyricists: 1. Heinrich Heine, who also wrote the text of the first song she published herself, 2. Wilhelm Hensel, who supported Fanny Hensel in her desire to publish, and 3. Friederike Robert, Fanny Hensel’s friend, to whom probably the earliest anonymous publication of a song can be traced. Thus, this edition tells a two-volume story of the publishing of her music.
